The 7 Percent Solution
You’ve heard it all before:
This is a new time, a new labor market - requiring new job search strategies and tools.
You have been told:
Most jobs are not posted (approximately 70% never get listed publicly)
Employers prefer to hire via referrals, especially employee referrals
You have been told:
The best way to learn about the hidden 70% is to be known by those who
know
The best way to be known is:
- by attending events where you can meet others and develop relationships
- by creating a value based profile on LinkedIn and being an active participant
You have been told:
The resume must address the needs of each potential employer
The resume is as much a proposal as it is a record of past experience
You have been told:
Having an action plan, revisited each week, will keep you focused
Tracking your progress and your contracts results in less time between jobs
Having an accountability partner will keep you moving forward
You know all of this…but what I know is that only about 7% of jobseekers actually act on this information. So…if you are doing all of the above, you are competing with only 7% of those seeking employment today. Wow! That’s much better than competing with everyone. Are you in the 7% club?
